Apparently now you only get two tries and they charge $19 extra for proctoring if you're doing it online. You'd still have to buy ALEKS for $20 in either case though, because it looks like they only administer the placement through ALEKS. The only difference is the proctoring - in person at UCI or buying the online webcam proctor service.

I recommend doing the Aleks module and the placement test if you are comfortable with your background knowledge. If you aren’t, I recommend taking the Math 1 series.
